Bathroom Safety Ideas

Ttub to shower conversionhe bathroom is one of the places in the house that has to be maintained in the right conditions so as to serve its purpose effectively. In order to achieve this there are a number of bathroom safety ideas that can be followed by home owners so as to avoid occurrence of accidents.

One of the causes of bathroom accidents is slippery floors. Most of the home developers usually use some floor materials make the floor attractive at the expense of safety. Home owners or people who aspire to buy a home or apartment need to choose a floor surface that is offers enough grip in order to avoid incidents of people falling in the bathroom. Clients should request the developers to use non-slip surface material that does not make the floor very slippery.

Another bathroom safety measure is the installation of grab bars on the walls of the room. Soap and other cleaning agents usually make the floor very slippery and this may lead to people slipping while bathing. Grab bars offers support in such instances and this prevents injuries such as breaking of bones that may result if the person does not have somewhere to hold in such a scenario. It is a great idea to have one or two in the walk in shower and another near the toilet.

Lighting is very important in the bathroom. Home owners and developers need to install proper lighting in the bathroom and on the hall way leading to the bathroom. This helps to increase the amount of light in the bathroom hence preventing persons from slipping or falling as a resulting of stepping on a slippery material on the floor. The efficiency of this bathroom safety idea can be enhanced by the removing any rugs on the floor of the bathroom that can tripped on by a person during and after a bath.

Probably the most serious safety issue is climbing in and out of the bathtub when using it for a walk in shower. The easiest way to convert the bathtub to a walk in shower is the E\Z Step Bathtub to Shower Conversion. A simple process where the existing tub is cut down to create either a notch cut or full cut entry into the bathtub, tempered safety glass shower doors, grab bars and a non-slip bathmat. The tub to shower conversion leaves only a 3 to 4 inch step.

A shower chair or bench can greatly help to avoid accidents in the bathroom. Most of the accidents that results from someone slipping during a bath are eliminated by use of the chair. Another benefit of installing a shower chair is that a person can be able to gain fast access to the grab bars unlike in a shower where one may not have ample time to grab them.

Another bathroom safety idea that is designed to help the handicapped people in the society is the installation of transfer benches and boards in the bathroom. This enhances the ability of the person to get out of wheelchair to the shower easily. This benches and boards are very affordable and can be purchased from all the leading markets all over the world.

Burns is another form of accidents that occurs in the bathroom. It is important to regularly check the water heating system in the bathroom to ensure that it is functions properly in heating the water to the recommended temperature. It is also advisable to test the temperature of the water before the bath in order to prevent burns. Always set the temperature on the water heater to a safe setting. When updating the plumbing in showers purchase scald guard shower valve along with a pressure balance mechanism.

That invisible bath mat is a great idea! Maybe you guys can help me market my newest idea...invisible toilet paper...the only problem is that you have to wash your hands a lot more vigorously when you are done.
